Andrea Wagner: Golden Clogs, Dutch Mountains
Golden Clogs, Dutch Mountains
Contemporary Young Dutch Jewelry Art
curated and edited by Andrea WagnerSubtle humor wins over serious gravity, and an intimate and playful relationship with colors compliments the inclusion of a wide range of materials. Especially where materials are concerned, even the simplest of these are finely and intelligently crafted into jewels compelling in their own right. Geographical boundaries have increasingly been fading away, and yet in the international field Dutch jewelry makers continually rise to the top. So what is recipe that makes contemporary jewelry from this small country special?
[...] These gems are not just intriguingly beautiful to look at, they also have conceptual force. They have something to tell, yet are usually quite abstract and not at all rendered literally or figuratively.
This catalogue marks the occasion of the travelling exhibition Golden Clogs, Dutch Mountains starting march 2007 in Velvet Da Vinci Gallery, San Francisco/CA.
